Kris Knight

Kris Knight est un artiste canadien dont les peintures perforent la membrane entre rêve et réalité, historique et contemporain, clair et sombre. Dans leur ambiguïté apparente, les œuvres de Kris Knight, représentant des portraits sensibles d'hommes, sont une combinaison évocatrice de romantisme et de nostalgie, explorant les notions de performance dans une dimension à la fois quotidienne et théâtrale. Ses peintures à l'huile pastel et tonales évoquent une série d'humeurs, de thèmes et d'expériences changeantes qui sont liés par un large éventail de positions concernant la notion de sphère privée et publique. Certaines œuvres sont sombres et mélancoliques; d'autres sont teintés de notes d'humour et de sensualité, de douceur, d'élégance et de lumière.

Originaire de Windsor (ON), Kris Knight vit et travaille à Toronto. Diplômé du Ontario College of Art and Design (OCADU) en 2003, son travail a depuis été présenté à l'échelle internationale, incluant diverses expositions individuelles, de groupes et foires d’art contemporain à Toronto, New York, Miami, Paris, Amsterdam, Copenhague et Los Angeles. Il a été présenté dans de nombreuses publications telles que Interview Magazine, Vogue, Public Art, Harper’s Bazaar, The Globe and Mail, WWD, The Miami New Times et L'Officiel Hommes. Son travail fait partie de nombreuses collections publiques et privées, notamment la Banque Royale du Canada, la collection Beth Rudin DeWoody, la collection Oppenheimer, le Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art, le 21C Museum of Contemporary Art, le Agnes Etherington Art Centre de l’Université Queen's, et plusieurs collections d'entreprise telles que Gucci, avec qui l'artiste a collaboré en 2014/15 sur de nombreux projets, dont la ré-imagination sombre et mystique du motif floral emblématique de la maison baptisé «Flora Knight».
